Moving on short notice is something no one expects coming. But that’s exactly what happened to one of our repeat clients, Claire, in December last year.
“One minute I was calling my agent to find out what would happen when my lease ended in a few weeks, and the next I was searching for a new home!” Claire recalled.
“As luck had it, I found one that I liked the look of that day, and it was open for the following day. I checked it out, and it ticked all the boxes, so I got my application in that night… and was approved the same week. Then the panic set in!”
Finding a reliable removalist at short notice
Having moved house several times over the past decade, Claire was well aware of how much planning usually goes into preparing for the moving day – as well as the physical work required to load and transport everything from one home to the next.
Due to the very tight turnaround (a week from being approved to signing the lease) and the fact that it was a few days before Christmas, Claire was naturally a bit stressed about being able to get the support she needed.
“I never imagined I’d be moving house at short notice – just days away from Christmas.
Especially when I had a trip to Queensland planned over the same period. So I was desperate for a removalist that I could depend on. Contacting Jord and his team was a no-brainer.“
As our team had moved Claire into her current rental, we already had a good idea of the volume of belongings involved. So, it was a simple case of checking what had changed and obtaining details about access to the new home.
Thanks to our online quoting form, Claire was able to provide all this information at a time that suited her. As it happens, this was when she was on the road to QLD for Christmas! Then we quickly had everything we needed to estimate time and cost.
“December and January are our busiest times. It took us a bit of strategic scheduling, but we were more than happy to make it work. The relief in Claire’s voice when we confirmed the date was well worth it!” Jord said.
Gated community and tight stairwells – the tricky parts of moving
Every move has its own set of challenges, and this one had a couple. The unit had steps leading to the front deck, and a narrow doorway at one home. The new townhouse was within a gated complex and had a shared driveway, as well as a very tight and curved stairwell leading to the bedrooms.
Thankfully, we deal with tricky circumstances like these every day as part of our removalist services, and our team were ready to meet the challenge.
Four of our seasoned removalists, a truck and a van were the perfect combination to get the job done.
We were able to back the truck right up to the unit, laying a boardwalk from the truck directly to the deck. This completely removed the steps from the equation, which saved both time and effort for all. This was also made easier as Claire used our quality packing materials, so we didn’t have to deal with old or ill-suited boxes.
At the townhouse, we carefully assessed the staircase and furniture dimensions to work out the best angles. With a bit of elbow grease and a few calls to “pivot”, all items were safely in place upstairs.
“I had no idea how they were going to do it. But I was amazed at how quickly it happened, and so relieved to not have any damage to the walls. Especially given it’s a new rental.”
Another happy customer
We’ve had the pleasure of assisting Claire in two previous moves, which both went smoothly with no unexpected issues or costs above the quoted estimate. So, we weren’t surprised when Claire reached out for help. As always, we were pleased to be able to help her with moving on short notice.
Despite this, we were able to book the job within 7 days. We even completed the entire move in under three hours with no breakages or damage to either rental property.
